The longer day

Holiday courses: four blocks, twice, either side of lunch

In school holidays KRSS ACADEMY LTD runs days instead of sessions. A course day holds the same four blocks twice over, with a lunch break between them and a quiet hour after lunch that an evening session has no room for. Days run Monday to Thursday; Friday is kept clear so the floor can be re-taped and the kit washed before the following week.

What a course day contains

Arrival, 30 minutes
Children are signed in at the pedestrian door, one at a time, by the coach holding the day register. Bags go on the bench against the back wall. Nobody is left on the estate road waiting for the door to open, so the door opens at the start of the arrival window and not at the end of it.
Morning blocks, 90 minutes
Warm-up, skill, game, cool-down, at the proportions the band uses, with the skill block carrying the teaching point for the whole day. The point stays on the whiteboard all day so the afternoon can return to it.
Lunch, 45 minutes
Out of the hall, on the bench seating in the office end, bags brought over. Children bring their own lunch and their own full bottle; there is no fridge, no microwave and no shop within walking distance of the unit, so a packed lunch that survives a warm hall is the one to send.
Quiet hour, 60 minutes
Floor games at walking pace, the whiteboard talk, and a rotation through whatever the group has asked for. This is the hour that makes a full day workable for the youngest band and it is deliberately dull.
Afternoon blocks, 90 minutes
The same four blocks again, with the game block longer and the skill block returning to the morning's point under more pressure.
Collection, 30 minutes
Name by name at the pedestrian door against the collection note taken that morning. A child not collected by the end of the window waits inside the hall with two coaches on the floor.

What a child brings

Shin pads are not needed for the course format. Jewellery comes off before the warm-up and goes into the office, not into a pocket.

Booking a course day

Course days are offered in writing, by day and by band, to the address the enquiry came from. The reply names the days held, the arrival window, the collection window and the band the child is in. Nothing is held on this page and nothing is reserved by reading it — the written offer is the booking.

Write to coaching@krssacademy.site with the child's band, the holiday week and the days wanted. The steps are the same as for a weekly place and are set out on joining a group.

Staffing and the roof-light rule

A course day runs with more coaches than an evening session of the same size, because a day holds arrival, lunch, collection and two full sets of blocks. The ratios the academy works to, and the first-aid cover on the floor, are set out on safety and supervision.

One local rule belongs to the unit rather than to the format: the roof lights above the far bays throw a hard strip of sun across the game zone in the middle of the day. On a bright day the afternoon game block moves to the near bays and the goals are turned, which is why the game zone on a course day is not always where it is on a Thursday evening.
